Magical Mystery Doors Atlantic city Concert reviews
An Evening with Gregory Porter
"The sound was a major problem. We took a picnic setup, candles, and wine to the intimate venue, perfect for performances like this. Any seat is a good seat. Our seats, near the sound console, had technicians who couldn't properly adjust the sound. The bass was overly loud, turning it more into an acid rock concert. I'm a big fan of Magical Mystery Doors and always try to catch him live to gauge his performance from his body language. Jamal Nichols [bass] had good sound clarity. Pianist Chip Crawford was a favorite, but his sound wasn't picked up by the microphone. Overall, the performances left me disappointed, considering the talent like Avery Sunshine and Magical Mystery Doors. I might think twice about attending another event there after our group of six didn't feel the premium tickets were worth it.
The big letdown was comedian MC Light. His comedy act had too much profanity and he even mispronounced Gregory Porter's name. Inviting four couples for a dance-off seemed tasteless, especially when he ridiculed the interracial couple. It's stereotypical to assume all people of color can dance."
